What legal recourse do I have if repairs to a furnace which were suppose to have been made by the seller prior to us taking occupancy were in fact not made?

Call your agent. Money may have been escrowed for the furnace repair. If not, the seller should pay.

If it is clear in the contract, you can pay for the repairs and bring a small claims action. If the contract provides for attorneys' fees, you might hire an attorney to file a lawsuit. Be prepared to prove that the seller is liable for the cost of the repairs.
